Welcome to My Kitchen!
I’ve been a homemaker for about 30 years, so you might think I know just about everything there is to know about kitchen tools and appliances.
The truth is, I don’t.
For most of those years, I simply used what I already had and what I already knew. I’m not an early adopter, and when I buy something that works well, I usually keep using it for years—often until it finally wears out or breaks. Because of that, I didn’t always pay much attention to every new kitchen tool, appliance, or cooking trend that came along.
Then I started noticing just how much had changed.
What Has Changed?
Walk through a store today and there are so many choices: different kinds of frying pans, blenders in every size, food processors, air fryers, countertop appliances, new materials, and tools I had never even considered using before.
And I found myself wondering:
- What exactly does this do?
- How is it different from the one I have always used?
- Is the newer version actually better?
- Would I really use it in my kitchen?
- Is it worth buying, or is the old-fashioned tool perfectly fine?
Sometimes I would look at a product and realize that I didn’t even know how people were supposed to use it. That made me curious.
Why I Started This Blog
After spending so many years cooking and taking care of a home, I realized I wanted to understand more about the kitchen world around me. I wanted to learn what had changed, why certain products had become popular, and which new ideas were genuinely useful—not just new.
I’m not a professional chef, a kitchen-industry expert, or an early adopter who buys every new gadget as soon as it comes out. I’m a longtime homemaker who is asking questions, researching the answers, comparing old and new options, and learning along the way.
And maybe that is exactly the perspective some readers are looking for.
The Questions I Ask Before Buying
When I explore a kitchen tool or appliance, I want to know more than what the package says. I want to understand how it fits into everyday life:
- Is it easy to use?
- What is it actually good for?
- How is it different from something we already own?
- Does it save time or space?
- Would I use it often enough to make it worthwhile?
- And do we really need to replace something that is already working?
I don’t believe newer automatically means better, and I don’t believe every kitchen needs every new gadget. But I do believe it’s worth understanding our choices.
Learning Together
Through this blog, I’m becoming more knowledgeable about the kitchen I’ve spent so many years in—and hopefully helping other curious home cooks understand it a little better too.
After 30 years, I still have plenty of questions. Now, instead of simply wondering about them, I’m finding the answers and sharing what I learn here.
Thank you for learning along with me.
